“A few years ago a close friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer. He was in dire need of a bone marrow transplant in order to save his life. After a massive publicity campaign was launched, hundreds-if not thousands-members of our community came to be tested. Thanks to the tireless efforts by everyone involved, a life was saved. In fact, hundreds of other people found necessary matches for bone marrow transplants that day, and that doesn’t even count the number of people now registered and available to give donations when need be. I learned through this touching experience that winning the fight is possible. Winning, however, requires action. The contribution of every person-no matter how great or how small-will be the key to finding the cure.”
